About Us

Who We Are

Muhairwe Education Trust Ltd (METL) is a non-profit organization set up to give hope to the disadvantaged children through higher education and research.

The Ugandan government introduced Universal Primary Education and Universal Secondary Education as part of its policy to provide free education in every family. However education after secondary education is prohibitively expensive and the majority of children would never get the chance to continue their education. This in turn means that they have no qualifications and therefore struggle to get any meaningful employment and continue in the vicious circle of poverty.

The METL aims at improving this situation by offering disadvantaged children with an opportunity to advance their career at higher institutions of learning and also promote research. This is believed to be the most effective way of supporting development though education and showing faith and confidence in the country’s great future.

Vision Bearer

Dr. Muhairwe founded the Muhairwe Education Trust Limited (METL) in 2010 to support underprivileged students in Uganda who lack the financial means to pursue higher education. Having been a beneficiary of sponsorship himself, Dr. Muhairwe understands firsthand the impact of financial support on academic success. In 2024, he launched the Nazario – Rwankote Educational Services (NRES), a subsidiary of METL, to help students from his home villages of Nyamirima and Mbagwa in Sheema District, access higher education.

To date, METL has supported over 53 scholars in the fields of medicine, engineering, law and other humanities. More than 23 students are currently enrolled at various universities across Uganda, including those doing post graduate studies and one PhD student at St. Augustine University of Tanzania. Through these initiatives, Dr. Muhairwe continues to empower young people, giving them the opportunity to transform their futures and contribute to National development.
