Dr. William Muhairwe among 9 Ugandans to be honoured with Professorship

It was an achievement worth celebrating. The United Graduate College and Seminary on Sunday honoured nine Ugandans with honorary doctorates for their out standing service in various disciplines in the country. The college is a professional Bible college and graduate level institution which trains students for Christian service in different capacities such as pastors, educators, evangelists, missionaries and counsellors.

An honorary degree is an academic degree for which a university or other degree awarding institution, has waived the usual requirements such as; matriculation, residence, study and the passing of examinations. The ceremony; held in Miracle Centre Cathedral in Kampala, was conducted by the college\'s chief chancellor Prof. Clyder Rivers, Chancellor Prof. Michal Pitzl, and special advisor, Prof. Bishop Arthur Kitonga. Prof. Venansius Baryamureeba was the guest of honour.

Ambassador Dr: Boney Katatumba was honoured for his unrelenting spirit, endeavouring to show possibilities available in Africa and providing innovative leadership to industry. National Water and Sewerage Corporation\'s William Muhairwe was honoured for his leadership and dedication to bring out the best in others, while Charles Mbire, a prominent businessman was honoured for his self less service to humanity and contribution to business development. Mbire\'s mother, Theresa Mbire, was also honoured for her outstanding contribution to local women entrepreneurship and commitment in community service.

Others honoured were Pastor Kayanja and his wife Jessica. Kayanja was honoured for his determination of faith in God and contribution to the growth of the church\'worldwide; and his wife for pioneering women\'s economic empowerment in self help projects. John Ssebaana, the former Kampala mayor, was honoured for his excellent leadership and committed service to Kampala city residents.

Prof. Rivers said: I need you to write books so that we can document Mrica and change the wrong image of Mrica. The chairman of the new partnership of African Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, Tom Buruku, was recognised for his outstanding service to humanity, Anatoli Kamugisha, the man behind Akright Projects Limited, was honoured for his unique entrepreneurial acumen, best practice in business and excellent leadership.

 In his speech, Prof. Baryamureeba congratulated all the individuals and urged them to use the achievements to uplift others. The ceremony was also attended by a number of academic personalities, friends and family members of the new honorary doctors.
